I had a client I was doing email marketing for on retainer.
Before I showed up, there were sending zero emails.
After I took over their account, email was 33% of total revenue.
And total revenue had gone up 15%.
Plus, I made them ten times what they paid me.
That’s a 1000% return on investment.
I did this 2 months in a row…
So I’d proven I could deliver.
Now, this client was launching a new website.
And they asked me to write all the copy for it.
I told them I wouldn’t be able to write an entire website on our current retainer…
And I’d be happy to do the work if they’d pay a project fee.
I quoted a price – $7,500…
And even offered to split the payment…
Which is something I never do – I always get paid 100% upfront.
They rejected my offer out-right…
Didn’t even make a counter-offer…
And ended our relationship.
I don’t know what the f*** was going through the owners’ heads when they decided this…
But it’s a perfect example of “short-term greedy”
- Why stop the email marketing retainer when I was giving them a 10X return?
- Why take a massive revenue cut – from 30% via email to probably 10%?
- Why reject my proposal when I had proven that any money they pay me would return 10-fold?
- Why not make ask for a discount?
- Why not ask for more favorable payment terms?
The whole experience was baffling.
Again, this is what I mean by the “hassle of dealing with clients.”
A hassle that vanishes…
When you’re an affiliate marketer.
